Day Forty-Four – “Shallow End” (In For A Penny / Dreamers)

You wait for her in the shallow end of the lake, bare toes digging into the silt; your hair is dark, lank and dripping like the weed that gathers around the edge, your skin a pale, sickly green. You stretch out a hand in invitation – there’s mud caked under your nails and your fingers are wrinkled from too much time spent in the water. She hesitates before takes your hand like she always does, letting you lead her down past the cut-glass surface—her lungs scream their protests as her mouth and nose disappear into the blackness, and your grip tightens.
