Day Forty-Two – “Good Samaritan” (In For A Penny / Dreamers)

You’re starving by a roadside when he finds you – eyes sunken, xylophone ribs, dry skin clinging to your skeleton for warmth. He knows he could walk by, that it would be the easiest thing in the world, but he still remembers Sunday school and the tale of the Good Samaritan. Wrapping his coat around you like a bandage, he puts you back together piece by piece, coaxes the colour back into your skin. When he wakes in the alcove between Gregg’s and the newsagents, you walk past him for the third time that week without so much as a glance.
